Palace of Quetzalpapalotl
Palace of Quetzalpapalotl

This housing complex is part of the residential area for priests and rulers who worshiped in the temples near the Pyramid of the Moon.

The architectural design of this building consists of four rooms decorated with murals with stepped fretwork and mica discs, whose geometric design extends along all the walls of the Porticos.

The word Quetzalpapálot belongs to the Nahuatl language, from the words quetzalli, which means precious feathers, and papalot, which means butterfly, that is, quetzal butterfly, butterfly with precious feathers. That is why the motif of the engravings that decorate the columns of the Patio de Pilares is that of a mythological bird with the body of a butterfly.
